US Congressman Bob Goode said that the people of Bangladesh deserve free and fair elections.
The Republican congressman wrote this in a tweet on Thursday (July 27).
He also wrote that he and 13 other members of Congress have sent a letter to the US ambassador to the United Nations expressing concern about the violence being carried out by the Bangladesh government against peaceful protesters.
Meanwhile, in a report on the investment environment of Bangladesh published by the US State Department on Wednesday (July 26), the United States expressed concern about the upcoming parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.
According to the report, although Bangladesh is a secular, peaceful and stable state, the country's political and security situation may become unstable in the run-up to the national elections in late 2023 or early 2024.
The report also noted that the last national elections in 2018 were marred by irregularities, violence and intimidation.
