Pakistan's former prime minister and PTI party chief Imran Khan has been arrested by the police. He was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment in a corruption case.
He was arrested at noon on Saturday (August 5) from his residence in Zaman Park, Lahore, Pakistan.
According to the information of the Pakistani media Dawn, a court in Islamabad gave this verdict by finding Imran Khan guilty in the Toshakhana case. He has also been ordered to abstain from politics for five years. The court immediately ordered the arrest of Imran Khan after announcing the sentence.
The Election Commission of the country filed the Toshakhana case against Imran Khan. The case has accused him of selling gifts received during the prime minister's tenure without depositing them in the state treasury.
Meanwhile, PTI's Punjab branch said in a tweet that Imran Khan is being taken to Kot Lakhpat Jail.
It should be noted that Imran Khan was forced to leave power after losing the no-confidence vote last year. Since then he and his party have been holding protests demanding new elections. The former cricketer blamed the US and the army for being ousted from power.
