The US has welcomed the cabinet's decision to repeal the controversial Digital Security Act (DSA).
Spokesman Matthew Miller said this at a regular press conference at the State Department in Washington on Monday (August 7) local time.
For a long time, the United States has been asking the Bangladesh government to reform the digital security law. You should be happy that the Bangladesh government has decided to repeal the law. Responding to a question on the matter, Miller said, "We welcome the government's longstanding commitment to reforming that law and freedom of expression." We said earlier that the law was being used to arrest and silence critics of the government.
He said that the United States is also aware that the newly proposed 'Cyber Security Act' should be of international standards instead of the Digital Security Act.
