Canadian rapper sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting fellow artist

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion in both legs.

On Tuesday (August 8), a court in Los Angeles found Tory Lanez guilty and gave the verdict.

Lanez, 31, was convicted of three felonies in December 2022. The charges are – carrying loaded and unregistered firearms in a vehicle; Assault with a semi-automatic handgun and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

After the sentencing, rapper Tory Lanez told the court, Megan Thee Stallion is someone I still care about to this day.

He further said that at that time I said very immature things which I should not have said. I divulged some secrets I shouldn't have divulged.

The court sentenced Lanez to 10 years in prison, while Megan Thee Stallion's lawyer asked for 13 years in prison.

Meanwhile, Tory Lanez's lawyer, Jose Baez, said they plan to appeal.

In July 2020, Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee testified that Stallion, 28, was shot in the leg after a pool party in the Hollywood Hills. There was an argument before the shoot that got heated and the two began attacking each other's music careers.

Megan The Stallion's real name is Megan Peet. She required surgery to remove bullet fragments from her leg, CBS News quoted her as saying.
