The cabinet has given final approval to a new law called 'CyberSecurity Act-2023' by amending several clauses of the much-discussed and controversial 'Digital Security Act-2018'.

The approval was given in the cabinet meeting on Monday (August 28).

It is known that the final approval of the 'Cyber Security Act-2023' has been given keeping almost everything that was in the policy approval. After the in-principle approval of the law, it was tabled in the cabinet on Monday after vetting by the law ministry.

Earlier, in the cabinet meeting on August 7, it was decided to replace the 'Digital Security Act-2018' with a new law called 'CyberSecurity Act-2023'.

The Jatiyo Sangsad passed the Digital Security Act in September 2018 to ensure digital security and to detect, prevent and combat crimes committed through digital means. The Act came into effect on October 8 of the same year. From its inception, the law was widely criticized for its misuse.
