The Israeli attack on Gaza is getting worse. Civilians sheltered in hospitals are not spared. The mosque is being destroyed. UN chief Antonio Guterres said half of Gaza's people are not getting food. A special session of the UN General Assembly has been convened amid Israel's crackdown. According to a report by the New Arab media, this session was called in the General Assembly to stop the war in Palestine and protect international peace at the request of Egypt and Mauritania. The letter written to the President of the General Assembly called for 'united for peace'.

General Assembly President Danish Francis said the session will be held on Tuesday (December 12) at 3 p.m, New York local time. Danish Francis has already written to all member states of the United Nations. He mentioned in the letter that this special session has been called at the request of Egypt and Mauritania. Egypt is the president of the Arab Group of Arab States and Mauritania is the president of the OIC, an alliance of Muslim countries.

Originally, this letter was issued with reference to UN General Assembly Resolution 377. This resolution, approved in 1950, states that the 193 members of the UN can take action if the UN Security Council fails to protect international peace and security.

The letter states that the situation in the occupied Gaza Strip and the Palestinian West Bank is heading towards dire consequences due to non-ceasefire and serious violations of international law, including human rights law.

The letter addresses human rights violations, saying Israeli forces have killed and injured thousands of Palestinian men, women and children in military aggression against the Palestinian civilian population. The letter also warns of Israel's obstruction of the forced displacement of Palestinians and the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the worsening of the situation.

Earlier on Friday, the United Arab Emirates presented a resolution to the UN Security Council calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. In this, 13 out of 15 members of the council supported the proposal. The UK abstained from voting. However, the United States, a permanent member of the Council, opposed the proposal and vetoed it. And this destroys the possibility of ending the conflict in Gaza.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed regret over the failure of the Security Council resolution. He condemned the division among the council members for this failure. Guterres said the lack of consensus among members has rendered the Security Council virtually ineffective.
