The death toll from landslides in northwestern Colombia has risen to 33. This information was reported in a report of the international media Al Jazeera on Saturday (January 13) citing local authorities.

Francia Marquez, vice president of social media platform X, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying that 33 people died in this tragedy, most of them children.
He said at this time, search and rescue operations are continuing for the trapped people.

Several landslides closed the road connecting Medellin and the cities of Quibdo on Friday afternoon, authorities said. Many people stopped their vehicles and took shelter in a house in an area of the road there.

Some people are also among the vehicles buried on the road due to the landslide. The landslide occurred as a result of significant rainfall in the last 24 hours in the Choco province bordering the Pacific Ocean.

Many vehicles were destroyed by landslides on the road. Some vehicles are stuck in mud and rocks.

In the early hours of Saturday, 17 bodies were moved there, AFP reported, citing authorities in Medellin. And forensic examiners identified three of them whose names have not been disclosed.
