The leaders of PML-N and PPP held the first formal meeting after the announcement of the results of the national elections in Pakistan. PML-N's statement said that there was a consensus between the two parties in that meeting to protect the country from political instability.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday accompanied a delegation of senior party leaders to the residence of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in Lahore. There the two sides discussed in detail the current political situation of the country.

Top leaders of the two parties agreed on political reconciliation, the PML-N press release said, "The leaders have agreed for political cooperation to restore political stability in the country."

Meanwhile, PML-N and PPP issued a joint statement after the meeting, Geo News reported.

According to the joint statement, a PML-N delegation led by PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif met PPP Chairman Bilwal Bhutto Zardari and Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and sought their cooperation in forming the government.

In response, the PPP leadership told the PML-N leaders that the proposal would be discussed in their party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting. The meeting is scheduled to be held on Monday.

The joint statement said, "In the meeting, the overall situation of the country and future political cooperation were discussed." PML-N and PPP have agreed on the principle of political cooperation. Both parties have agreed to protect the country from political instability.

Since the announcement of the results of the National Assembly of Pakistan, the race for political compromise between the parties has started. No party won a single majority in Pakistan's national elections held last Thursday (February 8).

Independent candidates backed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won the highest number of 93 seats.

Then PML-N is in second position with 75 seats and PPP is in third position with 54 seats. If these two parties reach an agreement, they will form the government with the support of independent and other small parties.

PTI chief Imran Khan was ousted in 2022 at the behest of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), which was made up of these two parties and several other parties.

Imran was forced to leave the post of Prime Minister after losing the vote when the PDM brought a motion of no confidence in the Parliament. After this PDM formed the government. Shahbaz Sharif was the Prime Minister in that government and Bilawal was the Foreign Minister.

Earlier some political sources told Geo News that PPP Co-Chairman Zardari has already expressed interest in an alliance with Nawaz Sharif-led PML-N.

However, as a condition, he wanted to see Bilawal as the Prime Minister in the government. However, nothing has been said by PML-N in this regard yet.
