Nahid Islam in Time magazine's 100 most influential list

Nahid Islam, the leader of the anti-discrimination student movement and an Adviser to the current interim government, has made it to Time magazine's list of 100 influential people.

This list was published for the fifth time on Wednesday (October 2). 100 people who have contributed in various fields have been highlighted in five categories. Nahid Islam is named in the 'Emerging Leader' category. Apart from Nahid Islam, Thailand's Prime Minister Petang Tarn Shinawatra and US Republican Party Co-Chair Laura Trump have been placed in the Leaders category. American television personality Laura is the wife of Eric Trump, the son of Republican Party candidate Donald Trump in the US presidential election.

Time magazine said about Nahid Islam, at the age of 26, he helped remove one of the most powerful people in the world from power. Nahid Islam, studying sociology, was one of the student leaders who started the nationwide movement against Sheikh Hasina.

It is also said about him that he became more known to the general public after being tortured by the intelligence agencies. A few days later, he announced Sheikh Hasina's resignation. After that, Hasina fled from power on August 5 in the face of massive protests by the common people.

Since then, an interim government has taken charge of the country, led by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Nahid Islam has been included as an Advisor in this government.

Nahid Islam told TIME, "No one could think that she (Sheikh Hasina) could be ousted from power." Sheikh Hasina fled the country on August 5 after several weeks of protests. Nahid Islam said, we must understand the hopes and aspirations of the new generation. "Political parties must stop violence," he said, adding that we need to move forward.
