Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a face-to-face bilateral meeting after a long five years.

This information was reported by Indian media NDTV in a report on Wednesday (October 23).

The report said that the meeting was held on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia.

Quoting Indian Foreign Ministry sources, it was mentioned that Prime Minister Modi laid the greatest emphasis on restoring peace on the borders of the two countries in the meeting.

Chinese President Xi Jinping mentioned that both China and India have some 'important responsibilities' in the international world.

It is worth noting that Narendra Modi and Xi Jinping last met in Brasilia in November 2019. That was also the BRICS summit, which was hosted by Brazil. The Modi-Xi meeting was also held on the sidelines of that summit.

Relations between the two countries had reached a low point after the deadly clash between the Indian and Chinese armies on the Ladakh border in June 2020. Then, for the first time, the top leaders of India and China met among themselves.
