Hundreds of millions of doses of the Covid-19 vaccine could be made by the end of this year. The World Health Organization (WHO) said the vaccine produced will be used for those who are most at risk.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday (June 18) that it was moving ahead with a target of two billion doses by 2021. Simultaneously the vaccine companies are also working hard for this.

Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist at the WHO, said researchers around the world were testing more than 200 vaccines. There are 10 vaccines in the human body trial.

‘If we are very lucky, there will be one or two successful vaccine candidates before the end of this year,’ he said.

Three groups have been identified as most needy for vaccine dosage delivery:

The first group is: front-line workers with high exposure; such as doctors and police officers,

Second, the elderly and diabetic patients who are most at risk in Corona

Third, highly infected areas, such as urban slums and care homes.

‘You have to start from the weakest’, Swaminathan said. Then gradually more people will have to be vaccinated. We are optimistic to produce several hundred million doses by the end of this year. And by 2021, two billion doses of one, two or three effective vaccines will be distributed worldwide. But there is a big ‘if’ behind all this. Because we still don't have a proven vaccine. An estimated 15 billion doses of vaccine will be needed to control the virus.

Scientists are analyzing 40,000 sequences of the new coronavirus. When all the viruses changed, the disease was acting like influenza. There has been no change in those key areas yet which can change the severity or resistance power of the disease. By doing so we are hopeful the vaccine will show an effective response in the human body.
