There’s no hiding that we all do dislike eating bitter gourd aka bitter melon.

In Bangladesh it's widely known as Korola. Though it’s really hard to consume bitter gourd for its intense bitter taste, it’s extremely beneficial for our health.

Shocking information is it’s both a vegetable and fruit. As it grows from a flower, bitter gourd also considered as a fruit itself. With high amount of vitamin- A, C, E, B, potassium, zinc and other micronutrients bitter gourd has numerous health benefits. Let’s discover some of them.

Controls diabetic

Numerous studies shows, whole fruit with its pulp, seeds and the plants extract are beneficial with hypoglycemic (insulin-like) effect. Saponins, alkaloids and polyphenols in bitter gourd work to increase insulin tolerance.

Helps to lose weight

Studies suggest that bitter gourd has anti-obesity effect in it. Adding this fruit in daily diet can actually helps to reduce extra weight. As it contains glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, carotenoids and fatty acids. They work to prevent any metabolic disorder.

Relieves constipation

This vegetable secretes more digestive juice to stimulate gut cells. This way it helps to digest food quicker and better. It is proven that, bitter gourd kind of works as digestion stimulant.

Fights cancer

Extract of bitter gourd inhibits cancer cell growth and surprisingly almost every part of this fruit has anticancer properties. Especially its seed has active fatty acids that actively resist the spreading of cancer cells of breast and liver cancer.

Helpful for skin conditions

Bitter gourd has excellent anti-inflammatory properties. Hence it treats various skin conditions like- eczema, rashes, several wounds and sore skin. To ease skin conditions make paste of bitter gourd and apply onto the wounded skin.
