Internet connection across the country has been disrupted after a cable was cut at the country's second submarine cable landing station at Kuakata in Patuakhali.

On Sunday (August 9) at noon, a local landowner in Alipore cut the high voltage DC power cable connected to the Bay of Bengal while digging the soil with an excavator. As a result, consumers across the country are facing the problem of slow internet usage. Mashiur Rahman, managing director of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited, visited the spot soon after the incident.

He said the power supply optical fiber of the submarine cable (SEA-ME-W-5) was damaged. Engineers working on the submarine cable have identified the damaged area and cable repair work is underway. The work will be completed in a few hours and customers will be able to use the previous speed internet.

However, legal action will be taken against those who have damaged the cable.
