National Mourning Day observed with due solemnity in Faridpur

The National Mourning Day marking the 45th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed here on Saturday (Today) with due solemnity and dignity through holding various programs.

The day's program began with hoisting of national flag at half-mast atop all public and private buildings. People placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu kept at the premises of local Ambica Memorial Hall maintaining health rules to prevent corona. Among others Deputy Commissioner (DC) Atul Sarkar and Police Super Md. Alimuzzaman placed floral wreaths.

A centrally arranged Milad and Doa Mahfil was held at the Shah Farid Dargah mosque seeking divine blessings for the departed soul of the Father of the Nation and also those who embraced martyrdom on that day. Besides, Doa Mahfil was held at all mosques of the town. Special prayers were also held at temples and churches of the town in this connection.

A discussion meeting on zoom cloud organized by the district administration was held in the morning chaired by DC Atul Sarkar who also moderated the two hour long discussion connected by 67 people from all strata.

The discussion meeting was addressed among others by Rajendra College principal Prof. Mosharraf Ali, educationist Prof. Md. Shahjahan, Poura Mayor Shaikh Mahatab Ali Methu, Advocate Sipra goswami, Sadar upazilla chairman Abdur Razzak Molla, representative of Sree Angan Dham, Freedom Fighter Abul Faez Shahnawaj, FDASC principal Forhad Hossain, Yasin Colege principal Prof. Shila Rani Mondol, woman leader Asma Aktar Mukta, Awami League leader Advocate Animesh Roy and Prof. Rezvi Zaman.

DC Atul Sarkar stressed on the implementation of Delta Plan of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attain the goal of ‘developed Bangladesh’ in 2041. He also emphasized on building corruption free Bangladesh as dreamt by the Father of the Nation. DC urged upon all to make the society free from militancy and bring happiness for all by removing economic discrimination from the society.

Speakers paying rich tributes to the best son of the soil observed that the August 15 carnage was the culmination of a deep rooted conspiracy hatched by both domestic and external conspirators to undo our hard earned independence and added that the spot killers were only identified but the real conspirators are still unidentified. They demanded of the government to unmask and identify those conspirators and bring them to justice.

Speakers also demanded of the government to bring back the 5 fugitive killers of Bangabandhu and execute them accordingly to get rid of the stigma the nation has been bearing for the last 45years.

Two documentary films titled 'Chiranjib Bangabandhu' and ‘Swadhinata amar Swadhinata’ will be shown in the evening by the information and mass communication department at different places of the town.

This year due to corona several literary and cultural competitions were held through on- line platforms where a huge number of enthusiastic participant students took part.
