Dhaka: Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the previous increased fares will be in force in public transport in compliance with hygiene and social distances. Due to the corona, the government introduced public transport at increased fares (60 per cent) on several conditions.
Mohammad Abdur Razzak, deputy director of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), a vehicle regulator, told Barta24.com on Wednesday (August 19).

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) held a meeting with public transport owners and workers at the BRTA head office in the afternoon on the issue of increased fares.

Asked about this, Abdur Razzak told Barta24.com, the bus owners have made an offer to us that they want to carry passengers as before and want to withdraw the increased fare. We will send this proposal to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges then the decision will be known. The previous increased fare will remain in force until a new decision is made.

Meanwhile, Khandoker Enayet Ullah, secretary general of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, told Barta24.com that other public transport, CNG, microbus and human haulers are all taking passengers according to their seat capacity. But the buses are not allowed to carry passengers according to their seat capacity. So we want to take passengers according to the seat capacity of the bus and take passengers at the previous fare. In this regard, we have made a proposal to the BRTA that they will send it to the Ministry and then a decision will be taken. So until then, public transport will run at 60 percent increased fares.

It may be mentioned that the government decided to start public transport in accordance with social distance or health rules from May 31.
