Dhaka: The Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) has strongly protested against the appointment of non-technical officers to technical posts and demanded the immediate withdrawal of non-technical officers.

In a statement on Wednesday (August 19), IEB Honorary General Secretary Engineer Khandaker Manzoor Morshed made the demand.

The statement said that the notification of the Ministry of Public Administration has been received by the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB). As seen in the notification, general cadre officers have been posted in core technical posts like Network Administrator, System Engineer, Executive Engineer, Database Administrator. However, a minimum of ten years of experience is required in the post of Assistant Engineer in the entry post and later in the post of Sub-Divisional Engineer.

He added in the statement that the posts posted on August 18 are fully core technical posts. If non-technical officers are appointed to these posts, IEB thinks that building a sustainable digital Bangladesh may be hampered. This will create huge obstacles in conducting important state activities. The implementation of Digital Bangladesh announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be hampered.

In a statement, the Honorary General Secretary of IEB said that despite the lack of desired experience, the appointment of inexperienced officers of the general cadre to the core technical positions has created frustration among the experienced computer engineers. The IEB has demanded immediate suspension of the order and appointment of experienced computer engineers in these core technical posts.
