The eyes of the whole country are now fixed on Sylhet. The horrific gang-rape that took place there, abusing political identity and power, is now 'Talk of the Country'.The crime took place in an educational institution like prestigious Sylhet M.C. college and on the day, just before hours of 200th birth anniversary of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, a leading figure in women's emancipation and a great educator.

It is meaningless now to mention this because, there is a proverb 'the thief does not listen to religious edicts' .Yet on such a historic and socially auspicious day, the people of the country and the world need to know the most heinous news of extreme violence and crime against women.

The news might have been suppressed if the media had not acted so quickly. The evening news kept coming in the media at midnight because some local rogue politicians wanted to cover up the gang rape. But that attempt did not succeed.

On the contrary, the whole country is protesting against this heinous crime. Sylhet has become turbulent. Students took to the field in protest. Their protest was on the MC College campus in Sylhet. General students are protesting against this heinous incident and demanding justice for the accused leaders and activists.

According to media reports, the students started protesting by setting fire on the Sylhet-Tamabil road adjacent to the campus at noon on Saturday (September 26). During this time they chanted various slogans demanding punishment of the rapists. Students called on the administration to arrest the culprits immediately. Earlier on Friday (September 25), the young woman was raped while visiting with her husband at MC College in Sylhet.
