While bringing a general resolution in the Jatiyo Sangsad to discuss on the work of colorful life of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the country is moving forward on the ideals of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. If he had survived, Bangladesh would have become a developed country long ago.

Monday (November 9) evening, Sheikh Hasina raised the proposal under Rule 147 of the Rules of Procedure of the Jatiya Sangsad(JS) after the President's  speech in the session chaired by Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. Then the general discussion on the proposal began. Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, former chief whip Abul Hasnat Abdullah and others took part in the discussion.

Before raising the issue, the Prime Minister said in her speech that it was a difficult task to introduce a nation which Bangabandhu did. And in doing so, he had sustain oppression of the Pakistanis.. I do not know what were the contribution of Pakistanis behind the creation of Pakistan. But the people of East Bengal had a great contribution. But after the creation of Pakistan, the people of East Bengal were exploited and oppressed. Bangabandhu protested against it. The Father of the Nation always cared for the people. Bangabandhu was arrested three times within 6/7 months of the creation of Pakistan. He gave 6 points in a short time. He was arrested wherever Bangabandhu went to speak in support of 6 points.

The Prime Minister said, "We want to build Bangladesh with the ideals of Bangabandhu." If our misfortune had not happened on August 15, 1975, Bangladesh would have become a developed country long ago. At one time Bangabandhu's name was also erased from history. He who brought so much trouble brought freedom. He was killed while building that independent country.

Emotion-stricken Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she did not tell us that he was tortured so much in Pakistani prisons. My younger sister Rehana often asked, she said you can't stand it, you don't need to know. Bangabandhu was not only assassinated as President, all the members of the family were assassinated. My youngest brother was not spared either. We were abroad so we survived.

In a written motion tabled in Parliament, the Prime Minister said the opinion of Parliament is that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the dreamer and architect of independent Bangladesh, the undisputed great leader of Bengalis and Father of the Nation, was born on March 17, 1920 in Tungipara, Gopalganj. He had struggled thoroughout his life to establish the rights of the Bengali nation and achieve political and economic liberation. He has endured imprisonment, oppression, torture. But he never compromised with injustice. The language movement of 1947-48 to 1952, the formation of the united front in 1954, the six points of 1966, the Agartala conspiracy case of 1966, the mass uprising of 1969, the election of 1970 - Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's bloody war in 1971 Our freedom has been achieved under his leadership. The historic March 7th speech sounded like a thunderous voice, 'This time the struggle is for our liberation, this time the struggle is for freedom'. Inspired by Bangabandhu's speech, the unarmed people of Bengal built forts against the Pakistanis in house to house. In the early hours of March 26, 1971, Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujib declared independence. After a long 9-month bloody war, at the cost of  30 lakh great martyrs and 2 lakh mothers and sisters’ sacrificed their lives to make Bangladesh an independent and sovereign country in the world map. Bangabandhu has given us an independent state red and green flag and a constitution. Bangabandhu has created a field for the Bengalis to walk with their heads held high as a proud nation with their identity in the world. After independence, he had only three and a half years to build a war-torn country. During that period he started the work of adopting and implementing the overall development plan of Bangladesh.

On the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the birth of Mujib in the year 2020, a special discussion should be held in the JS on his colorful political and career life and philosophy to pay homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the greatest Bengali nation of all time.

After four days of discussions on the Prime Minister's proposal, the proposal will be adopted by voice vote next Thursday. This program has been taken to commemorate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu (Mujibbarsha-2020). This special session of the JS started last Sunday in compliance with the health rules in the Corona situation.

The Prime Minister said the Father of the Nation had self-confidence because it was with this Bengali nation that he won the war and brought freedom. So he continued with that confidence. She said that history cannot be erased, history also takes revenge. Today no one can erase that name and no one can erase history. This is the reality. It is fortunate that we are in this Parliament celebrating the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation in 2020.

Sheikh Hasina further said, "I think Allah gives people a job and Allah protects them till the end of that job." God has saved me from learning that the Father of the Nation is not among us, that every word, every line is important to us.
