The 6-storey tilted building in Savar has been sealed. Earlier, everyone was evacuated from the building.
On Tuesday (November 10) afternoon, Savar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamim Ara Nipa sealed the building and banned public movement on the adjacent WAPDA Road. At present the area with the tilted building is under the control of the police.
Earlier on Tuesday (November 10) at noon, the 6-storey building of Tajul Islam on WAPDA Road in Savar municipal area tilted on the adjacent Nur Islam’s building. The building housed more than 50 families.
According to the Fire Service, the electricity and gas connections of the tilted building have been cut off. At the same time, the building is dangerous and no one is allowed to go around it for public safety. The entire area including the building is under police security.
Savar Municipal Mayor Abdul Gani said the building has been tilted for the past few days. However, there was panic as cracks appeared in the building today. Upon receiving the news, through mic he instructed the inmates to leave the building safely.
Farhad Hossain, senior station officer of Savar Fire Service, said everyone living in the building is at a safe distance. Necessary steps have been taken to seal the building.
Savar Model Police Station Inspector AFM Sayed said the BUET engineer team was informed after inspecting the spot.
