‘Qur’an was not defamed in Burimari’- District Administration claims

Lalmonirhat:  A three-member investigation committee formed by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) has claimed that there was no truth in Shahidunnabi Jewel's insult to the Qur'an at Burimari in Lalmonirhat.

The three-member inquiry committee held a press briefing in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday (November 11) evening. Earlier on Friday (October 30), Lalmonirhat Additional District Magistrate TMA Momin led three-member inquiry committee was formed with the instruction to submit enquiry report within three days. The committee was able to prepare an investigation report on Wednesday in a few phases.

At a press briefing, Additional District Magistrate TMA Momin, head of the inquiry committee, told reporters that the time was extended from three working days to nine working days. Timely investigation report has been prepared. But as the DC is out of office, the investigation report will be submitted to the DC on Thursday (November 12) morning. No truth was found in insulting the Qur'an. This is just a rumor. Rumors have it that Jewel was beaten to death and his body burned.

Regarding the investigation report, he further said that the report has been prepared after 8 meetings of the investigation committee after taking written and verbal statements of 50 people. A total of 6 pages of investigation report with 73 page attachments in 42 paragraphs in 6 chapters. The report provides an overview of the incident, additional information, in-depth observations, recommendations and comments. The head of the investigation committee also claimed that 4 recommendations were included in the report.

Responding to a question from reporters, Saidul Islam, deputy director of the fire service, a member of the investigation committee, said the investigating agency could take the report from the authorities if it deems it necessary to resolve legal complications.

In response to another question from reporters, another member of the investigation committee, Additional Superintendent of Police Rabiul Islam, said, "We have collected 18-20 video clips spread through social media to go deeper and monitor the situation." Seeing all this, we have got a lot of data.

It may be mentioned that Shahidunnabi Jewel was beaten and burnt to death in the afternoon of October 29 at the Central Jame Mosque in Burimari Bazar, Patgram Upazila. Saiful Islam, a cousin of the deceased, filed a case on Saturday (October 31). A total of 32 people were arrested at different times. Police remanded 10 of them. The arrested accused are all residents of Burimari area.

The deceased was identified as Shahidunnabi Jewel, son of Abdul Wazed Miah of Shalban Mistripara area in Rangpur. He came to visit Burimari with a companion named Sultan Rubayat Sumon. On that day, Shahidunnabi Jewel was beaten and burnt to death at the Central Jame Mosque in Burimari Bazar for spreading rumors of insulting the Qur'an.
