Phulbanu Bewa (65) reacted in an emotional voice after receiving a semi-pucca house as a gift from the Prime Minister on the occasion of Mujib Borsho. She was a landless resident of Sirajabad area of Islampur upazila in Jamalpur. Not only Phulbanu Bewai but also Duhuni Bewai, Asmat Ali and Syed Ali expressed the same reaction in this upazilla.
They said that the homestead had gone into the river due to erosion. So they used to build a hut on someone else's land. I never dreamt I would be able to sleep on my own land and in a pucca house. But that dream has been fulfilled through Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. For this they expressed their gratitude to Sheikh Hasina and wished her well.
It is learned that under the Asrayan-2 project of the Prime Minister's Office, a semi-pucca house, a gift from the Prime Minister, is being constructed for the accommodation of 1478 landless families of 'KA' class on government khas land in 7 upazillas of Jamalpur district.
These houses are being constructed with 2 decimal land of landless and homeless people in search of khas land in districts and upazillas. These houses have other facilities including kitchen attached toilet. The construction cost of each semi-pucca house of two rooms is Taka 1 lakh 71 thousand. District and upazila administrations are directly supervising the construction of houses.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Haque told Barta24.com that the construction work of 220 out of 1478 houses in the district for landless and homeless families has already been completed on the occasion of Mujib Borsho. The construction work of the rest of the houses is progressing fast. '
Already, 1478 homeless and landless families have been allotted khas land at the rate of two decimals, ‘Kabuliat’ documents have been executed and ‘Khatian’ has been prepared.
On Saturday (January 23), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the nationwide housing delivery program. Immediately after the announcement of the Prime Minister, the documents of land and houses in the district will be officially handed over to each family.
