The government is likely to extend the ongoing strict lockdown till May 31 which was scheduled to end on May 23 midnight.

A proposal in this regard was sent to the prime minister's office for approval from Cabinet division.

On May 18, the Covid-19 National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) in a virtual meeting decided not to suggest extending the ongoing lockdown. Rather, they stressed on wearing masks and maintaining hygiene rules properly.

The government also does not want to increase lockdown considering the lives and livelihood of the people. However, it is concerned about Indian variant virus. In this situation, government policymakers want to increase ongoing lockdown for one more week to avoid any kind risk.

Public movement will be restricted, just as it is in the current lockdown, and no one will be allowed to go out except for certain emergency needs – such as to purchase medicines, daily essentials, avail medical services, take Covid-19 jabs, and burial or cremation of dead bodies.

Hotels and restaurants will be allowed to operate from 12 noon to 7pm and 12 midnight to 6am on takeaway/online services only.
