‘Time befitting and welfare oriented budget’

The 50th budget in the history of the country was placed on Thursday (June 3) at 3 pm with the theme 'Priority of Life and Livelihood, Bangladesh of the Future'. This is the 21st budget of the Awami League government as a party.

The size of this year's budget is Tk. 6 lakh 2 thousand 881 crore which is 17.47 percent of the total GDP. This is Tk. 64,698 crore more than the revised budget of the current financial year. This time a large part of the revenue collection of the budget is dependent on foreign grants. This time, the government has set a target of raising a maximum of Tk. 90,000 crore from foreign grants.

Business organizations, economists and political parties and individuals have been reacting since the budget was presented.

After the announcement of the budget, the leaders of the ruling party Awami League are giving immediate response saying that the 50th budget is for the welfare of the people and time befitting.

Awami League presidium member Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak said the budget is time benefitting and welfare oriented. The implementation of this budget will help in fulfilling the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu. At a time when the world economy is in recession due to the pandemic, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given a time befitting budget.

He said the budget was part of the implementation of the promise made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her election manifesto. Besides, the proposed budget will help the Prime Minister to build a better Bangladesh in 2041 to fulfill Bangabandhu's dream of building a golden Bengal. The budget has been presented to the nation with the aim of building a modern state suitable for future generations to live in the country. This budget will benefit all the rich and poor middle class of the country.

Obaidul Quader, general secretary of the ruling Awami League, has said that the new budget is time requirements for the real crisis with the participation of all the people of the country.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday presented a budget of Tk. 6,3,681 crore for the new fiscal year 2021-22, taking up the challenge of reviving the economy by saving the lives and livelihoods of the people.

He said this in an immediate response to the journalists while leaving the Jatiyo Sangsad Bhavan after presenting the budget.

The Awami League general secretary said, "This is a timely budget based on a real crisis with the assurance of participation of all the people of the country."

Welcoming the budget, leaders of Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League, Juba League, Krishka League and Swechchhasebak League marched in the central office area of Awami League.

Besides, the BCL gathered in front of the Raju sculpture at the end of the joyous procession in Dhaka University area.

It may be mentioned that on 30 June 1972, the government led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman presented the first budget of independent Bangladesh. The budget presented by the then Finance Minister of the Awami League government, Tajuddin Ahmed, was Tk. 786 crore.
