The national corona vaccination program will start again from June 19. The first dose will be given with Chinese Synopharm and Pfizer vaccine made in Belgium.

Health Minister Zahid Malek made the remarks at a doa mahfil at the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons-BCPS auditorium in the capital on Monday (June 14).

The first dose was discontinued about two months ago due to a shortage of vaccines.

Bangladesh has already received 11 lakh doses of Synopharm vaccine from China as a gift and 160000 doses of Pfizer vaccine under the Covax program.

The health minister said all those who have completed the registration process will be vaccinated. Medical students have already been vaccinated with synopharm as the first dose.

Referring to the delivery of vaccines to different districts of the country from the capital, the health minister said that although vaccinations could not be started this week, it would start next week.

Zahid Malek further said that the entire 11 lakh dose of Synopharm will not be used as the first dose.

Noting that this was done in the case of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, he said, “We don’t want to fall into the same kind of problem again. We will give five lakh vaccines as the first dose in this phase. The rest will be kept for the second dose.
