Disputes between the central leaders of the ruling Awami League and the grassroots leaders are growing. As the election season draws nearer, leaders are busy calculating what they want. Grassroots leaders have reacted angrily in front of central leaders at the Chandpur district Awami League working committee meeting. On the other hand, on the way to the meeting, the party's central member Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Bir Bikram and Chandpur-2 MP Nurul Amin Rahul's followers chased each other, clashes and vandalism occurred.
The incident took place at 10 am on Saturday (October 2) at the toll plaza of Matlab Bridge. When the situation escalated, additional police were deployed to bring the situation under control. Mahbubur Rahman Salim, who was injured in the attack, said I was the in the car convoy of Minister of State for Planning Dr. Shamsul Alam. As soon as I reached the Matlab Bridge, a group of people suddenly came and attacked my car and vandalized it. Everyone in my car was injured at the time.
Chandpur-2 seat MP Adv. Nurul Amin Ruhul's personal assistant Adv. Liaquat Ali Sumon said, We were standing in the area adjacent to the toll plaza of Matlab Bridge on the occasion of the Grassroots Representative Meeting of the District Awami League. The Maya group leaders and activists attacked the convoy of State Ministers and local MP so that we could not greet the central leaders there.
Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said, if Allah is above and Sheikh Hasina is right below, no one will be able to harm Awami League. Many have left the Awami League. Everyone has to accept the sacrifice. The Awami League has no enemy except the anti-independence forces. Everyone must be united with whoever gets the boat. We will stay as soon as the boat wins, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will stay.
It has been alleged that the central leaders do not keep track of the grassroots. The leaders said that it would be difficult to field the renegade leaders of the grassroots in the next 12th Jatiyo Sangsad elections.
Many have complained that MPs do not look for leaders who run the party with their loyalists. Grouping in the area prevails. The MPs held a secret meeting excluding the grassroots leaders.
Look at the grassroots, look. President of Kachua Upazila Awami League and Mayor of Kachua Municipality said, all the organizations of Kachua Upazila are working in unison. Three unions have filed cases against the Awami League. No one takes the news of the grassroots. No one will take the field in the next election without taking the news of the grassroots. If the grassroots unite, our leader will be the Prime Minister again.
Leaders of Chandpur Sadar Upazila said, "We are united in Sadar Upazila Awami League and Union Awami League." Salt and sugar look alike but taste different. I will tell the central leaders to make a leader based on the taste of these two.
One of the leaders of Haimchar said, someone will eat, someone will not eat, it will not be. Some will own Taka 100 crore and some will sell land and work for Awami League will not.
A leader of Kachua Upazila Awami League said that extended meetings and grassroots meetings were held but no solution was found. It will be solved again. We have three ‘gems’, they never sit together. Information was taken from the intelligence agencies. But the detectives do not guard the Awami League but grassroots leaders guard.
Faridganj Upazila Awami League joint general secretary Rana said journalist Shafiqur Rahman was nominated in 2001 but he did not win. In 2018, he was nominated again. Drunkards, Ganjakhors and BNP run the party.
Nurul Islam Patwari said that in the next Union Parishad elections, deserving people should get nominations. No one should be nominated with money or any other means. We have some central leaders who oppose the boat if it is not convenient for them.
Matlab chairman Akram Hossain Chowdhury said, I am the chairman, I am the accused in the case. The party leaders and workers are in danger. The MP calls all the chairmen ‘thieves’ while the MP is running the party with BNP-Jamaat Razakars.
Meanwhile, after a long time there was a workers meeting and extended meeting in Chandpur district and there was great enthusiasm among the leaders and workers. Leaders and activists were seen entering the venue with the heat of the sun on their heads. There were extra decorations at the venue. The prescribed number of leaders and activists has to enter the venue with masks showing their faces.
General Secretary Abu Naeem Patwari Dulal conducted the meeting under the chairmanship of Chandpur District Awami League President Nasiruddin Ahmed. Central committee joint secretary Mahbubul Aalm Hanif MP was the chief guest while Minister Dipu Moni MP was the special guest. It was also addressed among others by member of the party's advisory council Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Bir Bikram, Major (Retd.)Rafiqul Islam (Bir Uttam) MP, Central Organizing Secretary of the party and Whip of Jatiya Sangsad Abu Saeed Al Mahmud Swapan spoke as special speaker. State Minister Dr. Shamsul Alam, Central Law Secretary Advocate Najibullah Hiru, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Information and Research Secretary Selim Mahmud, Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman MP, Ad Nurul Amin Ruhul MP addressed the meeting as special honorable speakers.
Also present on the occasion were local and central leaders including Matsyajibi League leader Redwan Khan Borhan and Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League office secretary Riaz Uddin Riaz.
