Today Wednesday is the 28th Safar, holy Akheri Chahar Shomba. The day of recovery of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Every year on the last Wednesday of the month of Safar in the Hijri year, Shomba is celebrated as a very dignified memorial day in the Muslim world. In the life of the last and greatest prophet of Islam, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), the last wish is especially significant.

At the beginning of 23 Hijri, the Prophet (PBUH) fell seriously ill. Gradually his physical condition deteriorated and he could not even perform duty of leading prayer. On 28th Safar the Prophet (PBUH) fully recovered. The day was the last Wednesday of the Safar month. He took a bath for the last time that day and led the prayers. The Companions were overwhelmed by the news of his recovery and donated thousands of gold coins, many camels and lambs. However, the next day the Prophet (PBUH) fell ill again. Only 15 days later, on the 12th of Rabiul Awal, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) passed away.

In Persian, the day is called Akheri Chahar Shomba. The Persian word Akheri Chahar Shomba means the last fourth Wednesday. Muslims celebrate the day as 'Thanksgiving Day' every year as the Prophet (PBUH) was cured for the last time in his life. They spend the day in supererogatory worship. Therefore, the importance and glory of the last wish in the spiritual life of Muhammad in the Ummah is immeasurable.

This year too, the day is being celebrated with due religious solemnity. On this occasion, a discussion meeting and prayers will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Zohar prayer today at the initiative of Islamic Foundation. This information was given in a notification of the Islamic Foundation on Tuesday.
