Husband commits suicide after strangulating wife and child in Ashulia

A husband identified as Sabur Ali has committed suicide after strangulating his wife Rozina Akhter and 9-year-old daughter Sumaiya Akhter over a family feud in Ashulia, Savar. Police have recovered the bodies of the deceased  after receiving the news. The relatives of the deceased claimed that the tragic incident took place due to a family quarrel with the husband after the auto-rickshaw bought with his wife's money was stolen.

Police recovered their bodies from a room in a tin-sed house owned by Fazar Ali in Jamgarh Battala area of Ashulia around 9:30 pm on Saturday (November 6). The deceased Rozina Akhter and her husband Sabur Ali, a resident of Chargoruk Mandal village under Fulbari police station in Kurigram district. Rozina Akhter worked in a garment factory and Sabur was an auto-rickshaw driver. Their daughter Sumaiya used to study in a local madrasa.

Police and relatives of the deceased said the incident may have taken place at some point on Thursday night. Neighbors are suspected of not getting any response for two days. Later, they saw husband hanging through a tin gap in a neighbor’s room and informed the Ashulia police.

Rasheda Akhter, sister of the deceased Rozina, told Barta24.com that she bought an auto-rickshaw and left first on Wednesday. However, the auto-rickshaw was stolen. Later, he did not inform his wife about the incident for fear. However, the next day the wife found out. From then on, the husband and wife started quarreling.

Ashulia Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Al Mamun Kabir told Barta24.com that it was initially thought that the husband had committed suicide after strangulating his wife and daughter. The incident could have happened two days earlier. However, the matter can be further confirmed after receiving the autopsy report. However, it is not possible to say what caused the incident. The details will be known after talking to their relatives and further investigation.
