Today is November 7. The pro-liberation forces observe this day as the day of killing of freedom fighters. Prominent people think that the process of killing the freedom fighters started from this day in the name of Sepoy revolution. It ended with the assassination of Ziaur Rahman on May 30, 1981.

On this day in 1975, three prominent freedom fighters were first killed in the name of Sepoy revolution. They were Khaled Musharraf Bir Uttam, KN Huda Bir Uttam and ATM Haider Bir Bikram. Asad and Jalil, two company commanders, shot dead at close range in the morning while stationed at the headquarters of the 10th Bengal Regiment.

Journalist Anthony Mascarenhas wrote that indisciplined soldiers also killed 13 army officers, including a female doctor. Even the wife of an army officer was also killed at the time.

Writer-researcher Golam Murshid wrote in his book ' Mukti Juddho O Tarpor’ that Shafayat Jamil was staying at Bangabhaban even after receiving the news of the revolt. But when the unruly rebel army reached near Bangabhaban chanting slogans, he fled with his companions to the top of the wall. He broke his leg and was later caught in the cycle of fate. His place was in the military hospital. He survived.

Earlier, on the morning of November 7, a team of Lancer forces of Bangabandhu's murderer Farooq went to free Ziaur Rahman who was under house arrest. This party was led by Lancer Mohiuddin who had a strong role in the assassination of Bangabandhu. They freed Zia and brought him to the office of Colonel Rashid's 2nd Artillery Regiment.

Ghulam Murshid further said that after his release, Ziaur Rahman went to give a speech on the radio without talking to the newly appointed President (Justice Abu Sadat Sayem). He made the similar brief announcement on March 27, 1971, saying he had taken over as chief martial law administrator at the request of the military. It may be mentioned here that he had first declared himself President on March 27, 1971. He later corrected. This time too he declared himself chief martial law administrator. He later became deputy chief martial law administrator.

Although Ziaur Rahman later established himself as president with a series of referendums, presidential elections, local council elections and parliamentary elections, various reports indicate that there were more than 20 coups during his tenure.

At least one coup attempt was made almost every three months during Zia's rule. In this regard, Ghulam Murshid said that once Farooq-Rashid, etc., after forgiving the breach of discipline, Zia tried very hard to bring the army back to discipline. But one coup after another kept happening in the army. He hanged many army members after each coup. Many were massacred without trial and buried in mass graves. Especially after the coup d’état of October 2, 1977 hundreds of army men were killed without trial or short trial. As a result, the Air Force has only 11 officers. Only three of them could fly. According to Marcus Frender, the coup killed 2,500 troops.

After Ziaur Rahman was killed in a military coup in Chittagong on 30 May 1981, many freedom fighters, including Major General Manzoor, were hanged and shot dead.

The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) will observe the day today called Sepoy- People's Uprising Day across the country. The party has organized a wreath-laying and discussion meeting on the portrait of Colonel Taher Bir Uttam, Sector Commander of the Liberation War, at the auditorium of Shaheed Colonel Taher at 11 am today.
