Make-shift shops are sitting in Bangabazar at noon

The work of preparing the fire burnt of Bangabazar premises is almost ready.The newly constructed temporary market is now visible after laying bricks and repairing it. Traders will be housed temporarily in the place of the burnt market.

From today Wednesday (April 12), traders will set up temporary shops and start selling. Each trader will get a shop of three and a half feet and five feet.

A visit to Bangabazar Market on Tuesday showed that the work of removing waste from the rubble is almost at an end. Provisions have also been made for renovating with new bricks and sand and setting up a wooden post . Businessmen are waiting to start new business. Along with the shops placed on the sidewalk in Bangabazar, the shops in the surrounding markets have also opened.

After losing everything, the affected businessmen are trying to turn around again. Meanwhile, vendors are bringing goods from different places to set up shops on the side of the road.

Many people are sitting with shops on the sidewalk around. Traders of the partially burnt Enexco Tower, Banga Islamia Market and Banga Homeo Market said that apart from rehabilitating the affected traders, the public and private organizations must also work to bring back buyers to Bangbazar. Otherwise, the businessmen here will not be able to overcome the loss.

A list of 2 thousand 961 affected traders has been given to the Dhaka South City Corporation by the business organizations. These traders will be placed temporarily at the market place from 12 noon today. The South City Corporation Mayor will come and arrange the placement of the traders.

Meanwhile, stating that Tk. 2 crore 12 lakh has been deposited in the fund of affected traders till Monday, General Secretary of Bangbazar Complex Shop Owners Association Zahirul Islam said that the entire money in this fund will go to the government. Hopefully, a big donation will come from the Prime Minister. All in all, this money will be distributed among the affected businessmen through government initiatives.

Sand and bricks have been laid across 1.79 acres of Bangabazar. So far, 40 truck full sand blasted in the area and about 90,000 bricks have been laid. About 2.5 lakh bricks will be laid and about 150 truck load sand will be blasted in the entire area. The concerned officials of the corporation are working tirelessly to sand and lay bricks in the entire area by Tuesday.
