The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the US criticism of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT advisor Sajib Wazed Joy will not have any impact on the bilateral relations between the two countries.

"I don't think so ... because we had a very good meeting and discussed all the issues on our agenda," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sehli Sabrin said in response to a question at the weekly media briefing on Thursday (April 13).

She referred to the bilateral meeting between Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Washington on April 10.

A few hours before the meeting, Sheikh Hasina criticized the United States in the parliament, saying that the country speaks against corruption, but they have been speaking in favor of people convicted of corruption.

She said, "They want to abolish democracy and bring in a government that will have no democratic existence -- (meaning) undemocratic tendencies." She also said that some local (so-called) intellectuals who live by selling their wisdom adhere to them.

She said that the United States has ignored the requests of Bangladesh many times and has been sheltering Rashed Chowdhury, the convicted murderer of Bangabandhu.

Earlier, on April 8, Prime Minister's ICT Adviser Sajib Wazed Joy criticized the expulsion of two African-American lawmakers from Tennessee for their gun control protests, questioning the legitimacy of democracy in the United States.

Joy said in a Face book post that the US state legislature voted to expel two minority lawmakers, while retaining a third, who is white. This is the state of democracy in the United States. The US State Department is nothing but an arena for a bunch of hypocrites.
