Today is the 61st death anniversary of Sher-e- Bangla A.K. Fazlul Haque who was Chief Minister of undivided Bengal.

He died on April 27, 1962 in Dhaka. He also has an important place in the pages of history as a living symbol of academics and communal harmony.

Sher-e- Bangla A.K. Fazlul Haque was born on 26th October 1873 in the Miya house of Saturia village, Rajapur, Jhalakathi district. In his illustrious political career, he served as the Chief Minister of undivided Bengal, Home Minister of the Central Government of Pakistan, Governor of East Pakistan, Chief Minister of the Jukto Front Government, the first Muslim Mayor of Calcutta City Corporation and member of the Legislative Assembly.

He also contributed to the anti-British movement. In 1940 he proposed the historic Lahore Resolution. He was also the architect of 21 point demand. The landmark contribution of Sher-e- Bangla as Chief Minister of Bengal was the formation of Debt Settlement Board for the welfare of the repressed and exploited farmers’ of the society.

Various social, political and cultural organizations have taken elaborate programs on the occasion of Sher-e- Bangla's death anniversary. The program includes wreath laying at the grave of the deceased and reading of Fateha and discussion meeting.

On behalf of Awami League, Fateha reciting and special prayer will be held at 8:30 am on this day in accordance with the health protection rules to pay respects at the shrine of the deceased and seek the forgiveness of his soul.
