Prime Minister arrives in Washington

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC to attend an event marking 50 years of partnership between Bangladesh and the World Bank. The event will be held on May 1.

A United Airlines flight carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage landed at Dallas International Airport in Washington DC on Friday (April 28) at 3:35 pm (US local time). Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Muhammad Imran welcomed the Prime Minister at the airport.

After a seven-day visit there, she will leave the US for London on May 4 to attend the coronation of Charles III and his wife Camilla as King and Queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations.

Earlier on April 25, a special Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage landed at Tokyo's Haneda International Airport at 4:45 pm (local time). The Prime Minister left Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:56 a.m. that day. The Prime Minister will be on a 15-day official visit to Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh was given a red carpet welcome in Japan and given a guard of honor at the airport. During the visit to Japan, eight agreements were signed between Dhaka and Tokyo including agriculture, metro rail, industrial development, ship breaking, customs matters, intellectual property, defense cooperation, ICT and cyber security cooperation. On April 26, Sheikh Hasina had a courtesy call on Emperor Naruhito of Japan.

On the same day, she also held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida after signing the agreement.

On 27 April the Prime Minister presented the 'Friends of Liberation War Honor' to four Japanese nationals for their contribution to the Bangladesh Liberation War and also attended an investment conference and a reception.

During her visit to Tokyo, the Prime Minister attended several bilateral meetings including meetings with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and meetings with leaders of JICA, JETRO, JEBIC, JBPFL and JBCC.

Prime Minister's sister Sheikh Rehana, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak, Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid and State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak were present. High level government officials accompanied the Prime Minister on her visit to Japan. The Prime Minister is scheduled to come to Dhaka from London on May 9.
