‘I have planned to move the country forward while in prison’: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that she made plans to move Bangladesh forward while sitting in jail.

She said this when IMF Managing Director Krystalina Georgieva met with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Hotel Ridge Carlton in Washington on Saturday afternoon (April 29) local time.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs AK Abdul Momen briefed the journalists.

Sheikh Hasina highlighted the various initiatives taken by the government to ensure the overall development of Bangladesh in the conversation with the head of the IMF.

The Prime Minister said, while in jail, I have made plans on how to take Bangladesh forward. After coming to power for the second time in 2009, I started working according to the plan. This development of the country did not happen overnight, it is the result of long-term planning.

Sheikh Hasina also mentioned the various steps taken by the government to combat the harmful effects of climate change and empower women.

She said that Bangladesh has taken a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a 'breathing space'.

At this time, the IMF MD praised the Prime Minister's leadership. At the same time, she praised the economic stability of Bangladesh despite the shock of the Corona and Ukraine-Russia war.

Kristylina Georgieva said that Bangladesh has achieved significant progress due to extensive infrastructure development, good connectivity and law and order management.
