Foreign Minister Dr.AK Abdul Momen said that the government will take the initiative to return BNP acting Chairman Tareq Rahman to the country after getting the court's directives.

The minister said this in response to a question from journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (August 2) afternoon.

In response to a question from journalists, the foreign minister said, "I don't know what Tareq Rahman is doing in London, the capital of the United Kingdom." Though Bangladesh has tried to talk to the UK government several times about this. However, the country has repeatedly told Dhaka that it does not share personal information.

In response to a question about the meeting with diplomats led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the foreign minister said that they can do that. It is a free country. Anyone can invite anyone.

Tareq Rahman, acting chairman of BNP, has been sentenced to 9 years jail for acquiring illegal wealth and concealing wealth information, and his wife Dr. Zobaida Rahman was sentenced to three years in prison by the court.

In addition to the prison sentence, Tareq Rahman was fined Tk. 3 crore by the court. He will have to serve three more months in default of fine.
