The US does not stand for any political party: Peter Haas

The US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Peter Haas, said that the United States does not support any particular political party regarding the elections in Bangladesh.

He said this during an exchange of views with journalists after a courtesy meeting with AL leaders at the Awami League party office at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue on Thursday (August 3) at 12:30 p.m.

Peter Haas said we support democracy where the people of Bangladesh will elect their next government.

He further said, I have spoken to the Awami League, other parties, Election Commission and law enforcement agencies. I told everyone about the US. I have asked everyone including the Awami League to make the next election free, fair and impartial.

In response to a question about CareTaker, he said that the United States does not take a stand for any particular party. It is a matter for the political parties of Bangladesh, they will decide on this matter.

Earlier, the meeting started on the eighth floor of the Awami League's central office at 11:30 a.m. It ends at 12:30 pm.

Awami League presidium member Farooq Khan, International Affairs Secretary Dr. Shammi Ahmed, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Information and Research Affairs Secretary Dr. Salim Mahmud and Central Executive Member Professor Mohammad Ali Arafat were present with AL general secretary Obaidul Quader.
