Four people died in Ukhia and Chakria of Cox's Bazar due to continuous heavy rains.

The incident took place in the afternoon of Monday (August 7) in separate landslides in Ukhia and Chakaria areas.

It has been learnt that a mother and daughter died due to a landslide in the Rohingya camp in A/6 block of the 9th camp of Ukhia. On the other hand, two children died in a landslide in Chakaria in the afternoon.

Amir Zafar, the commanding officer of the 8th Armed Police Battalion engaged in the security of the Rohingyas in Ukhia, said that in the afternoon, the hill collapsed on the shed of Anwar, who lives under the hill. Anwar's wife and his baby daughter were crushed. Later the fire brigade and locals rescued them dead.

On the other hand, two people died in the Baraitali area of Chakria. Locals are working to remove the soil and recover the two bodies, police said.

Chakaria Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Javed said that two members of the same family were killed in a landslide due to heavy rain in Baraitali area of Chakaria. However, their identities were not immediately available. As the area is inaccessible, it took time for the police team to go.

Mohammad Salekuzzman, chairman of the Baraitali Union, said that due to continuous rains, landslides have occurred in inaccessible hilly areas. Two people were killed. It is not possible to reach there due to continuous rain. Still we are taking news.
