At the fag end of her life, Amena Begum (70) was overjoyed to receive a gift house given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. As she likes the semi-pucca house very much, Amena has started a new dream in her new house. Amena, who earlier took shelter with her family in someone else's house, can stay in her own house very well after so long. So her joy is not diminishing.
Overwhelmed with joy, she said, "If you hang the hammock, let me vote on the boat this time". Amena Begum, aged over seventy, was saying the words while wiping her eyes with her hands.
When asked how it feels to own a house, Amena Begum burst into tears. Wiping her eyes with a veil, she said, there was no land before. I am raising my son and daughter with shelter in one house. I never imagined that the Sheikh's daughter would give her a house when she was old. Now I can live happily in my own house with my husband and children. I pray to Allah that the Prime Minister is always healthy and well.
Many landless and homeless families like Amena got the dream house given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the land and house transfer program on Wednesday, August 9. Through a video conference from Gono Bhavan, Thakurgaon and other 11 districts were declared landless and homeless free.
Among the five upazilas of Thakurgaon district, Thakurgaon Sadar, Pirganj and Ranishankail upazilas were declared land and homeless free. Earlier, Baliadangi and Haripur upazilas were declared land and homeless free.
