Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is coming to Bangladesh on a two-day visit in early September. A Bangladeshi diplomat said that he is likely to reach Dhaka on September 7. However, the itinerary has not been finalized yet.
The Russian Foreign Minister is scheduled to attend the G20 summit in Delhi on September 9 and 10. At the same time, there are talks of his multiple visits to the region, a diplomat said.
During his visit to Dhaka, Lavrov will have a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. And he will hold a bilateral meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart Dr. AK Abdul Momen.
The meeting will discuss various aspects of global politics, trade, energy and defense cooperation and the Rohingya crisis, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Lavrov's visit is likely to sign several memorandums of understanding, a diplomat said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has been traveling around the world since the start of the Ukraine war. Since then, Moscow has been showing interest in his visit to Bangladesh. The Russian Embassy in Dhaka is regularly showing interest in this at the political level.
Lavrov was supposed to attend the Indian Ocean Cooperation Alliance (IORA) ministerial meeting held in Dhaka in November last year. But Russia canceled his visit at the last minute.
