State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman commented that every step taken by the government to reduce the risk of disaster will be implemented, especially for women and marginalized groups.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled 'Disaster Risk Reduction, Gender and Intersectionality in South Asia' organized by the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS) of Dhaka University at a hotel in Dhaka on Monday (September 18).

The Minister of State said, the concept of inter sectionality reminds us that human identity has diverse aspects like social class, caste, religion and disability. All these factors influence the perception of disaster. A disadvantaged woman with a disability faces different adversities during a disaster than another advantaged able-bodied woman. Therefore, we need to adopt policies and programs that consider these complex and practical issues in disaster management planning.

By taking into account the changes that people's gender, age, disability and social context bring to their disaster planning, we can ensure everyone's safety in disasters, he said. Gender Responsive Resilience and Intersectionality in Policy and Practice (GRIP) Inclusive disaster management programs in South Asia are directly related to government commitment to people. We must embrace the motto of 'Gender Responsive Resilience and Intersectionality in Policy and Practice'.

It was also attended by South African researchers from University College London, Latin America and the Caribbean, Gender Responsive Resilience and Intersectionality in Policy and Practice (GRIP) Chief Coordinator Professor Maureen Fordham and South Asia Regional Chief Professor Dr. Mahbooba Nasrin and others.
