The National Identity Card (NID) service will remain closed till noon on Wednesday (September 20) due to server maintenance, Director General (DG) of NID Division Humayun Kabir said.
He told the media on Tuesday (September 19) morning that the server will be closed from this morning to Wednesday (September 20) noon for security reasons. As a result, all services related to NID will be closed for the time being.
The authorities sincerely apologize for the temporary inconvenience.
Earlier, the NID server was shut down on the night of August 14. It was activated after 38 and half hours on August 16. The DG said the server was shut down at 12 pm on August 14 due to fear of cyber attack. Though 171 institutions were informed in advance. But it was not reported at the individual level for fear that the general public would be confused.
The database of NID has about 30 types of personal information of about 12 crore voters. 171 public and private organizations are regularly availing information verification services from this repository of EC.
