Case against Dr. Yunus for alleged violation of labor laws

A case has been filed against Chairman of Grameen Telecom and Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus in Rangpur Labor Court. The case was filed for non-payment of fair wages and violation of labor laws.

The case was filed in the Rangpur Labor Court on Tuesday (September 19) by senior farm manager (retired) Md Faruqul Islam of Grameen Krishi Foundation.

In the case, six people including the founder of Grameen Bank, Dr. Muhammad Yunus have been made accused. Defendant's lawyer Shamim Al Mamun confirmed the matter.

Shamim Al Mamun said, The case has been filed in the Rangpur Labor Court against rural agriculture officials including Dr. Muhammad Yunus for non-payment of Tk 9 lakh 75 thousand 125 due to the plaintiff in respect of wages, gratuity and accrued leave. Besides, the case alleges violation of labor law and demands for the said dues and compensation.

He also said that although the said money is owed, the plaintiff was forced to retire by applying pressure at various times without paying it. Shamim Al Mamun said that the plaintiff Faruqul Islam has demanded compensation along with the dues by filing the case.
