Chattogram Customs seized about 2,800 sacks of goods from four containers imported from China in the name of calcium carbonate by false declaration at Chattogram port. 28 metric tons of powdered milk and 40 metric tons of dextrose were found in the sacks. By this, about Tk. one crore of revenue evasion has been prevented.

Chattogram Customs Deputy Commissioner Md. Saiful Haque confirmed this information on Wednesday (September 20).

According to customs sources, GY Trade Private Limited, a company in Puran Paltan area of Dhaka, announced the import of calcium carbonate from China. 3219 sacks in four containers came in the name of the company. A C&F agent named Extended United Agencies of Chattogram's Asadganj area was in charge of clearing the containers.

Due to suspicion, the shipment was locked by the Air Branch of Customs on September 18 in the Assyakuda World system. On September 19, 100% of the consignments in four containers were manually checked. Of this only 419 sacks contain calcium carbonate. 28 metric tons of powdered milk and 40 metric tons of dextrose were found in the remaining 2,800 sacks.

Chattogram Customs Deputy Commissioner (AIR) Md. Saiful Haque said, in physical examination, about 2,800 sacks of different products of the same nature and same print were found with the declared calcium carbonate. These sacks contain about 28 metric tons of powdered milk and 40 metric tons of dextrose. By importing the goods under false declaration, the importer tried to evade the revenue of Tk one crore. Samples of the products have been sent to the lab for testing. Preparations are underway to file a case of revenue evasion against the importer.
