Law Minister Anisul Haque said that there is nothing the government can do about sending BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad who is under treatment in the hospital.

The Law Minister said this in response to a question from journalists at the Law Ministry Secretariat on Monday (September 25).

According to section 401 of the Bangladesh Criminal Procedure Code, Khaleda Zia's sentence has been suspended conditionally, Anisul Haque said, if there is a change, Khaleda Zia's conditional release should be canceled and cohabitation should be brought. Then other considerations can be made. There is nothing the government can do from the point of law about sending her abroad.

Earlier, BNP legal affairs secretary Barrister Kaiser Kamal said that the request to send BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad was made on September 5. But without responding to that, now asking her family to go to court is nothing but a waste of time by the government.

Before that, last Friday, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque said that no application has been received so far regarding sending Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment. Khaleda Zia's matter will be seen if applied.

78-year-old Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various physical complications besides heart problems, liver cirrhosis. She has had many complications including arthritis, diabetes, dental and eye problems for many years. After coming out of prison, she was admitted to the hospital several times for treatment. Khaleda Zia's angiogram in June last year revealed three blocks in her heart. A ring is worn on one of them.

Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital again due to physical illness on August 9. Since then she is under treatment in the hospital.
