Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that the International Solar Alliance (ISA) should be the focal point for the introduction of innovative technologies and exchange of experience in the development of solar energy. ISA can make an effective contribution to the expansion of solar power if the program is adopted with a visionary approach and consideration of the needs of the members.

He said these things while speaking at the virtual meeting of the 9th Standing Committee of the International Solar Alliance on Monday (September 25).

The state minister also said that effective development of solar projects will be possible if we plan together. Solar energy is becoming a priority all over the world. Bangladesh is also giving special importance to the development of solar energy. At present, Bangladesh's electricity generation capacity from renewable sources is about 1200 MW. Out of which 461 MW is available from Solar Park and about 350 MW from Solar Rooftop.

A solar park of 1,250 MW capacity is under construction and projects for power generation of about 9,000 MW from renewable sources are in various stages. If investment in solar energy is accelerated by the right policies and regulations, the expansion of solar projects will be possible quickly.

After finalizing the country partnership agreement and strategy, ISA, in collaboration with the Division of Power, will assist in the feasibility study and progress of solar powered agricultural applications, cold storage, sluice gate automation, emergency health services solar rooftop, solar rooftop at Chattogram railway station and floating solar projects.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md. Mostafizur Rahman, ISA Director General Dr. Ajay Mathur and relevant ministers and representatives of member states spoke at the event under the chairmanship of India's Minister of Power and Renewable Energy RK Singh.
