President Md. Shahabuddin has ordered everyone to avoid coaching business to improve the quality of education in the country. He also urged students to be well educated in moral education along with world class formal education.

The head of state said this in the speech as the chief guest at a discussion organized at Osmani Smriti Auditorium in the capital on Thursday (October 5) on the occasion of World Teachers' Day.

Urging everyone to work together to prevent question paper leaks, the President said that a class of unscrupulous gangs and some misguided teachers are directly and indirectly doing business in the name of coaching centers. He advised all teachers and parents to strive to guide the development of talent in children. He also strongly criticized the unhealthy competition for children to get GPA 5 and not being able to get GPA 5 as the minimum qualification for admission to medical, engineering or university.

The President said that in the social system of the country, the respect and status of teachers is still much higher than any other profession. But in this age of social decline, the respect and dignity of the entire teaching community cannot be undermined for a few misguided teachers.

He congratulated all the meritorious teachers and said that the teachers will contribute to the construction of Bangabandhu's dream of Sonar Bangla by creating modern, science-minded and advanced citizens with good sense of life and leadership qualities.

President Shahabuddin directed the relevant ministries and institutions to monitor the extent to which the primary and secondary level teachers go abroad for training and how much they apply in the classroom when they return home.

Addressing the teachers, the President said that your effective role in building the society and overall development of the country is essential. You will teach young students the difference between right and wrong, truth and falsehood, human service and patriotism and responsibility towards parents. Treat students like parents.

He mentioned that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had a deep compassion for teachers and realized the importance of education in the development of the country and nationalized 36,165 private primary schools in one day in 1973.

Chaired by Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni the function was also addressed among others by State Minister of Primary and Mass Education Md. Zakir Hossain, Deputy Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, representative of UNESCO Dhaka office Dusan Vaiz, Dhaka University Professor Lafifa Zaman, Secondary and Higher Education Department Secretary Soleman Khan, Dhaka Government Laboratory High School Senior Teacher Ismat Ara Mumtaz and Khilgaon Shantipur High School Assistant Teacher Pallab Kumar Bhowmik.
