Due to thick fog, the ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes have been stopped and six small and big ferries have been stuck in the middle of the river.
Alim Dayan, assistant manager of BIWTC's Daulatdia Ghat branch, said that the ferry service on this route has been stopped since 12:00 pm on Monday (December 11).
He said that the fog started increasing from the evening. As the night deepened, the fog began to increase in thickness. At one point, around 12 o'clock in the night, the river course became obscure. Beacon lights and marking points on the river ferry channel were nowhere to be seen. As a result, ferry traffic on this route was stopped to avoid accidents.
Apart from this, 6 ferries are stuck in the middle of the river due to fog. He said that the ferry operation will be normal only when the density of fog decreases.
Half a hundred vehicles are stuck in the Daulatdia Ghat area due to the suspension of ferry services. These include small and large vehicles including passenger buses and cargo trucks. Drivers and passengers have been suffering.
