In the upcoming 12th atiya Sangsad)elections, 168 candidates were given back candidature in three-day hearing appealing to the Election Commission (EC) against the decision given by the Returning Officers.
On the third day of the appeal hearing, Tuesday (December 12), this information was revealed by the law branch of the Agargaon Election Commission of the capital.
Officials of the EC's legal wing said that 61 candidates have been given back their candidature on the third day. 35 people were rejected. 4 appeals were not decided. On the first day 56 appeals were accepted, 32 rejected and 6 undecided. 51 candidates were returned back in the race on the second day. 41 people have been rejected.
561 appeals have been filed against the decision of the Returning Officer. The Election Commission will dispose of the appeals till December 15.
As per the schedule announced by the EC, the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is December 17. The Returning Officers will allot the symbols on December 18. The election campaign will continue till 8 am on January 5. And the polling will be on January 7 (Sunday).
