In both Bangladesh and India, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi's government is "likely" to retain power in general elections due in January and April-May, following policy continuity.

The leading global rating agency Fitch said this on Tuesday (December 12).

In a statement, Fitch said there is a high probability that the incumbent administrations in both India and Bangladesh will retain power during their upcoming general elections in April-May and January respectively.

The BJP government led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power for the first time in 2014 and returned to power with a large majority in the 2019 general elections.

The global rating agency said nearly half of its rated portfolio in the Asian region will hold legislative or presidential elections in 2024.

Fitch says elections among Asian sovereigns due in 2024 will be key.

According to Fitch, credit profiles in Pakistan and Sri Lanka are more likely to influence election results. Both of which are dependent on the successful implementation of IMF programs and official support. Also Taiwan will stand as a potential geopolitical factor.
