Three people including a child were killed when a jeep lost control in the market area of the capital's Khilkhet.
The deceased are Yasin (9) and Ujjwal Pandey (26)and an unknown woman(27). Yasin's father Suman(35) was injured. The injured were rescued and brought to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The accident took place on the main road near Khilkhet Bazar passenger shed around 9 pm on Wednesday (December 27).
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Khilkhet police station Sheikh Aminul Basha confirmed the the incident. He said that a Land Cruiser Prado SUV lost control and ran over the pedestrians. The child died on the spot. The injured were first taken to Kurmitola General Hospital.
The OC also said that the jeep was impounded but its driver escaped. Police are working to get the details.
Meanwhile, the brother-in-law of deceased Ujjal Pandey, Sabuj Kirtanya, said that their house is in Kazipara village of Muksudpur police station in Gopalganj. Ujjal currently resides in Bhatara Nayabazar area. He worked in a private company. But Sabuj could not tell why he went to Khilkshet.
Suman's father Mofiz (Yasin's grandfather) said that their house is in Khilpara village of Chatkhil Upazila of Noakhali. Suman lives with his family in Mohammadpur in Pabna House street. Mofiz himself works as a security guard in a house on Road No. 13, Khilkhet. In the afternoon, son Suman and grandson Yasin visited him at Khilkshet. After meeting, he was returning home to Mohammadpur from there. After some time, he came to know that his grandson Yasin had died in a road accident. Later he went to the hospital and found his son Sumon injured.
Dhaka Medical Police Camp In charge (Inspector) Md. Bachchu Mia confirmed the death and said that 3 people from Khilkhet were brought to Dhaka Medical in an injured state. Later one of them named Ujjal was declared dead by the doctor. An unidentified woman succumbs to his injuries and Suman is admitted. His condition is critical.
