The foreign minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud called for the peaceful settlement of all disputes in the world and to uphold the culture of peace.

The foreign minister made the call in his speech on the second day of the 19th NAM summit in Kampala, Uganda, on Saturday (January 20) morning.

Referring to the speech given by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the NAM Summit in Algiers in 1973, the foreign minister said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is boldly carrying forward Bangabandhu's legacy of peace, development and human rights.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud reiterated Bangladesh's unwavering support to the oppressed people of Palestine and demanded justice for them. He called on the international community to stand by the Palestinians and make every effort to support them.

The foreign minister called for redoubled efforts by all concerned to ensure a sustainable solution to the Rohingya issue and emphasized the need for constructive and peaceful dialogue to build a peaceful, just and inclusive society.

NAM's new chairman Ugandan President Iweri Museveni inaugurated the summit on Friday. The 'Kampala Declaration' and a declaration on Palestine are expected to be adopted at the end of two days of deliberations.
